I was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Manhattan.. have been riding the subway all my life.. many interesting events have happened.. I decided I may as well blog them..

On my way home one day on the #7 train..
..this was rush hour , so the train was jam packed..
..really! like the cliche - A can of sardines..
..the train ride is going well..
..Until we start heading to Queensboro Plaza..
..there is when we come out of the tunnel from manhattan ,
and onto the subway track looking like a bridge.. its out in the open..
...so the train stops.. ok, no big deal this happens often..
15 minutes later .. still there.. My legs are starting to hurt from standing...
30 minutes later.. I really wish I could get more comfortable.. but I am squished in and cannot really do much of anything..
45 minutes later!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! still here!!
It has now been more than an hour..
I try shifting my weight from one leg to another.. then I noticed everyone else standing and crammed in were doing the same.. I laughed to myself it amused me.. these people going through the same thing..
into the 2nd hour.. we are still there!!! and I left work early thinking I would get extra rest..
..I hear a whimper kind of.. somebody getting out there frustration I guess..
the whimper again!!..it is getting stronger and more frequently..
then it turns into crying... everyone is looking around to see who is crying..
Where I was standing I could not find the woman crying..
She starts calling out.. Why are we stuck here?..
I am amused.. people start shifting again trying to gain on some space somebody else may have lost..
Some man starts cursing.. People start mumbling and complaining..
..I am looking around.. My eyes meet another woman standing.. she is amused as I am at the situation..
..she has a smirk on her face and so do I..
..I look away so I don't start laughing.. she looks away too..
..we both looked at each other again.. then simultaneously we both bursted out laughing..
..could not help it.. the whole thing was so funny.. its been 2 hours..
here we are one woman crying over being stuck.. People cursing and this other woman and I laughing..
we all have different reactions to certain situations.. and you never really know how you will react until you are in the moment..
I am glad I was able to laugh at the situation especially when all I wanted to do was get home and relax..

I have never been on a subway or even a train. Your experiences are interesting.

once I was on a ship and they thought it might going down so they made us all get our life jackets on and go to the upper decks and it was amazing to see what came out of people. Some were just sobbing away, others were pacing around, some were getting angry and saying, "if my mother were here she would yell at the captain and I wouldn't have to be all crammed with these other people in this uncomfortable position" and I was laaaaughing. And then a crew member was like, "hey guys, stay on the stairs" and one of the girls was like, "WHAT? Does he mean ONLY guys??" like she was going to push ahead of all of the guys on the ship in order to get into a lifeboat first. But the dude was like, "no, I mean like 'you guys', stay put for a minute"

It's so unfortunate that it happened with such a crowded train. So did they ever explain what happened?

Maybe the people with you and the other lady on the train thought that two of you were hysterical due to being a sardine for too long.

the only timeS the subway in my country grinds to a halt like that is when some sucidical pple jump into the tracks of an incoming train,and get mashed. the trains were stopped to remove the bodies. eeks

We were on the bus from NJ to NY, and there was a smaller bus in the tunnel ahead of us.

It broke down, so we got to sit in the tunnel for a while while they came and towed out the little bus.

It was a bit amusing.
